Vincent Huguet

After some years in history of art and publishing, Vincent Huguet started to work in theater with Patrice Chéreau and assisted him on various productions. In 2013, he was his dramaturge and assistant director for Elektra (Strauss) at the Aix-en-Provence festival. Since then, he has directed the revivals of this production in Milan, New York, Helsinki, Berlin and Barcelona. He has collaborated and worked on other theatrical and opera productions with Luc Bondy, Ivo van Hove and Peter Sellars.

In 2012, he made his directorial début with his first opera, Lakmé (Delibes), at the Opéra national de Montpellier. His next opera was the new creation, Contes de la lune vague après la pluie, composed by Xavier Dayer, premiered in 2015 at the Opéra de Rouen and at the Opéra comique, Paris. In 2015, other new productions he directed include Rosemary Standley’s recital, Love I Obey, at the Philharmonie de Paris and Encor sur le pavé sonne mon pas nocturne (Reynaldo Hahn), commissioned by the Académie du Festival d’Aix-en-Provence. In 2016, he has directed three new productions : To be or not to be (Purcell), conducted by Vincent Dumestre at the Opéra de Rouen, Les Voyages de Don Quichotte (Ravel, Strauss, de Falla, Massenet) with Marc Minkowski at the Opéra national de Bordeaux, and Three Women. Histoires sacrées of Charpentier at the Théâtre de Caen and in the Château de Versailles with Sébastien Daucé and his ensemble “Correspondances”.

In 2017, he took part at Vaille que vivre, a show starring Juliette Binoche and Alexandre Tharaud in the Avignon Festival, then a new production of La Vie parisienne (Offenbach) conducted by Marc Minkowski in Bordeaux. In the Stadttheater Klagenfurt, he also directed Werther (Massenet), conducted by Lorenzo Viotti, with whom began an important collaboration, specially in the Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon (Ode maritima in 2018, Roméo et Juliette and Requiem in 2019). For its 350th Birthday, the Paris Opera commissioned to him two galas in 2018 ; the same year, he came back to Aix-en Provence to direct Dido & Aeneas (Purcell) and he also directed Roméo et Juliette (Gounod) at the Luzerner Theater. In 2019, he directs the 100th anniversary production of Die Frau ohne Schatten (Strauss) conducted by Christian Thielemann in the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna) and a new production of Les Comtes d'Hoffmann (Offenbach) in Bordeaux with Marc Minkowski and will revive his Dido&Aeneas at the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow. Among the projects to come in the next years, Manon (Massenet) at the Opéra de Paris and the Mozart Da Ponte Trilogy in the Staatsoper Unter den Linden, conducted by Daniel Barenboim.
